Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice

Covenant Statement

The Catholic High Schools and Colleges in the Diocese of Cleveland have a long tradition of taking action for social justice as guided by the principles of Catholic Social Teaching.  Catholic Students for Peace and Justice originated in 2002 in the recognition of our shared mission and sought to further collaborate efforts and resources dedicated to promoting peace and justice.

Ø      We, as educators and representatives of these academic institutions, pledge to uphold the following Mission as we serve the students entrusted to our care:

Mission Statement of Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice

As an organized group of educators and advocates for social justice

from across the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland,

we strive to support students from our diocese in living the call of their faith

to build just relationships which lead to a lasting peace.

We are committed to student formation within the framework of Catholic Social Teaching,

which is rooted in the belief that all humans have dignity and are loved by God.

We are dedicated to providing opportunities

that allow students to grow in awareness of social justice issues

through facilitating participation in meaningful and appropriate social action.

We are devoted to fostering cooperative unity among Catholic schools

and cultivating solidarity between all who yearn for justice.

We seek to be supportive of all students in these endeavors,

especially those from academic institutions with limited resources.

Ø      As an academic institution, we seek to work in cooperation with the Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice Educators Network to enhance our mission of involving our students as advocates to promote peace and justice.
